Forbidden: Selling during the Adhan of Juma’h

Assalamu alaykum,

This is my next post from the “Real Deal” series inshallah.

O People who Believe! When the call for prayer is given on (Friday) the day of congregation, rush towards the remembrance of Allah and stop buying and selling; this is better for you if you understand.

And when the prayer ends, spread out in the land and seek Allah’s munificence, and profusely remember Allah, in the hope of attaining success.
[Juma`h 62:9-10]

adhan Forbidden: Selling during the Adhan of Jumah
Conditions for the prohibition:
1. That the person(buyer or seller) is one upon whom Juma’h is obligatory
2. That the sale is not absolutely necessary
3. That the person is aware of the prohibition
4. That the adhan of the khutbah (the second adhan) is or has been given.

The trader is sinful, however the sale is valid according to the majority. As for the Hanbali and Dhahiri scholars, may Allah have mercy on them all, then they consider the contract to be invalid and this is the most correct opinion inshallah. This is based on the rule that a prohibition entails invalidation of the action that is prohibited against.

Women can continue to buy and sell to each other after the adhan of the Juma’h because they are not from those upon whom the Juma’h is obligatory.
If a person who is obliged to pray the Juma’h, deals with one who is allowed to trade during this time, then they are both sinful according to the majority of the scholars.

And Allah knows best!
