Emigrating (hijrah) for the sake of Allah

Emigrating for the sake of Allah is yet another way that one can increase his sustenance. This is known as making ‘Hijrah’ in Arabic, and it entails leaving a land that a person cannot properly worship Allah to a land where it will be easier to worship Allah . It means to leave a land of disbelievers or evil people, to the lands of the Muslims. It is essential for such an emigration to be sincerely for the sake of Allah and not for the sake of some worldly gain or benefit such as marriage or wealth.

The proof that emigration for the sake of Allah can increase our wealth is found in this statement of Allah:

“He who emigrates from his home in the cause of Allah , will find on earth many dwelling places (muraghama) and plenty to live by (sa’ah). And whosoever leaves his home as an emigrant unto Allah and His Messenger, and death overtakes him, then his reward is surely incumbent upon Allah . And Allah is ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
Surah al-Nisa,100.

In this verse, Allah has promised whoever emigrates for His sake two benefits and blessings, ‘Muraghama’ a comprehensive word that implies all of the good of the religion, and ‘Sa’ah’ which includes all of the good of the world, wealth of course being one of them.
