Finding it hard to locate your WordPress API Key? We’ve all been there, if you’re one of those frustrated people that simply can’t find it and you’ve landed here, you’re in luck. Here is how you can find it:
- Go to your home page at WordPress.com
- look in the top left hand corner and you will see a tab called “My Account”
- Roll your mouse over it and you will see a list appear, click onto “Global Dahboard”
- On the left hand side you will see some tabs, click “Profile”
- On the top of the page you will see your API Key
Now you can relax

very useful article,
thank you!
I have the latest version of word press 2.8.2 and there is no API Key on the profile page like on the other version.. I have looked everywhere … Still can’t find it?
Any suggestions
Hi Jason
It should be there, I have just checked to see if i can view mine In WP 2.8.2 and i found it no problem.
Make sure you are looking at your wordpress.COM home page and follow the instructions from there rather than from within your blog dashboard.
It’s a nightmare trying to find it isn’t it?!
Salaams,
I have a custom installation of wordpress not on wordpress.com
Is there any way to have an API for custom installations for external connections. I would also be obliged if I could find something on how to use a single WP installation for multiple blogs, is that possible?
