Alhamdulillah with the help and never ending Grace of Allah swt the Ummah-Design team have managed to design & develop many websites for Mosques & Islamic Organisations. Unfortunately there is still a very long way to go for these type of organisations to utilise the online opportunities to their full potential, however we are really pleased to see a growing number of mosques recognizing the importance of their web presence, it wasn’t a great number of years ago that the very few number of mosques that even had a website appeared to be several years behind the times.

The web changes as often as the weather outside so it’s sometimes difficult for many to keep up with the trends, but despite this Alhamdulillah it’s so nice to notice mosques still eager to connect with the generation of today and their websites reflect this perfectly with their beautiful imagery & Islamic designs, what better way to interact with the online community!

A year ago we posted a blog post titled ‘15 Most Awesome Muslim Blogs’. When we originally did this our knowledge was quite limited to just how many REAL Awesome Blogs there were out there, but Alhamdulillah & Mashallah since then we were so overwhelmed with the response and comments from our brothers & sisters all over the world that we had to follow this up with a much needed ‘Most Awesome Muslim Blogs 2011’. And we hope to update this every year Inshallah with the most recent & most popular blogs of the time.

Included in this are all the brilliant blog links suggested to us in our readers comments, we found many of them breathtakingly amazing and a true inspiration. We thank and appreciate all who commented in our original post and hope to get twice as many comments on this one Inshallah.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind our readers that although we understand the majority of showcases normally concentrate just on the appearance, in this case we’d like to stress that although a few of our carefully picked blogs might not be that appealing to the eye compared to others, we found their efforts, content, idea and/or the popularity of the blog to be profoundly astonishing Mashallah and Allah SWT knows best.

We had to start this showcase with American Muslim Mom, this is one of ours and was a great pleasure to revamp. Its a great idea of a site & a much needed one in the society of today, may Allah reward their team immensely for enlightening us with their inspiring content amin.

Well, need I have to introduce Productive Muslim? I think I can safely say there shouldn’t be any doubt as to why this blog sits here among the most awesome blogs of 2011. This brother hasn’t only made it into the hearts of the adults but also the hearts of our youngsters biidthnilah. Reminding us all how to keep ourselves productive in every second of each and every day with the endless collection of tips & resources bursting out of this blog, his cool, fly logo does it in style. It was a true pleasure & inspiring experience working along side this brother to set up one of his projects Productive Ramadan in 2010.

I honestly do not know where or how to start with this one, sister Zohra is a truely motivating lady with much to offer not only Muslim women & children but all mankind in general. I’ve only recently come across this one actually, and really glad I did. Sister LaLa ‘Noor’ Garcia, a recent new Muslim in America is the founder & editor of this great magazine, in which she states “this magazine will be my voice to the ummah as well as an ear for all others.” definitely one to recommend to all writers & artists inshallah.

I came across this blog when my husband was trying to register himself on their website. I think they got so busy that they couldn’t keep updating their blog .

I love this site as most of the UDsisters also work from home and when i did a blog post about this a while ago, I had no idea of this site.  It contains so much useful tips and resources, provides support, advice and much more. Islamic Learning Materials (ILM) is brother Ismail’s attempt to make Islam more understandable to average English-speaking Muslims. Its simply scrumptious, I realise this is the second blog I’ve featured connecting to Morocco and I’m sure that the fact I’m Moroccan myself  doesn’t play any part in it Both the design & content are amusing in this one where sister Amanda shares the tastes & smells of her American Moroccan kitchen & family life. I particularly liked the colours used in the header, combining the blues with the red & yellow is really authentic as is so many of her delicious recipes.

We start this showcase with Relief4africa.org. Relief 4 Africa is an independent NGO dedicated to improving the lives and welfare for people living within the Horn of Africa. This is the first official website for R4A with a very straight forward goal. It was a pleasure working with their team in designing and developing this CMS site and we wish them all the best in their mission fisabillah.

Next is Newcollegemanchester.com. New College of Manchester is exactly what the name says it is, a new college situated in the city centre of Manchester offering a wide variety of courses and education, this is their first official website so it was important to portray the right identity and high quality of standards you would expect to find at the college itself, we kept this CMS site simple for easy navigation but added a splash of colour to keep it young & fresh.

Then we have Islamic-relief.com‘s annual financial report project (http://www.islamic-relief.com/annualreport).  It was a great honor and pleasure to work together with the Islamic Relief team to accomplish their annual report’s mini site. We were able to implement the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 to this site as recommended by W3C to make the web content accessible to people with disabilities,  to cater and attract a wider audience Inshallah. (The design was provided by brother Owais Khan)

This is a professional Muslim matrimonial site (http://simplymuslimmarriage.com) that provides UK Muslims a platform to be introduced to like minded individuals who are serious about getting married, a unique site well worth visiting or passing on to single relatives and friends. Preseli View (http://www.theguidingstars.co.uk) is a family run self-catering accommodation aiming to provide a restful break for families and couples who are looking to escape into the tranquility of the Welsh Countryside. This is their first official website that they needed to promote their property, display pictures, prices, latest offers, availability information. It also comes with an online availability checking and booking system for both the potential client and their own convenience. Our client says:

OldhamIslamicAcademy.org

And last but not least we have OldhamIslamicAcademy.org. The Oldham Islamic Academy is a new project in development to set up Oldham’s first Islamic Academy. The Academy proposes to teach vital aspects of the National Curriculum coupled with Islamic subjects. They intend to begin with teaching children between 5-11 years at Primary level and then aim to eventually teach at Secondary and Post-16 levels Inshallah. The best thing about it is that the school will be state funded and therefore provides FREE admissions to all of its pupils, inshallah. The purpose of the website is to raise awareness of their appeal and make it easy for those who would like to donate towards the cause.

As we all know it’s getting harder and harder for our Muslim youth to maintain their Islamic faith in this western society, especially when the subject of relationships & Marriage comes along. It often helps when our children are able to communicate in honesty with their parents and when parents are not so ‘restrictive’ in their children’s choice of spouse.

Well we have some VERY good news for Muslim parents & youth that have reached this understanding and who are looking for a different & simpler solution to complete their deen.

Sobhanallah & Alhamdulillah we have been extremely busy here at Ummah Design so much so we are looking to expand our team even further IA. We start our showcase with ZahrasPainting.com. This site was a pleasure and so much fun to design. It belongs to our sister Zahra Bilal all the way in Pakistan, she’s an artist who specialises in Pastels & water colour so we wanted to represent this as much as we could in the design by using the soft pastel colours & texture. We can see she is very passionate for art and so wanted to highlight her work & unique style of painting as much as possible.

Next we have Ghamkolsharif.com, the Central Jamia mosque, this is one of our local, very well known & popular masjids situated in the heart of Birmingham. The Mosque is open to all visitors regardless of their faith and beliefs throughout the year, whether it’s to find out about the Mosque and its services or to discover more about the teachings and practices of the Islamic faith. The mosque wanted to keep their green colour scheme so we chose to enhance this with a softer green & orange and added some texture to create a warm authentic look.

Then we have Muslimknoxville.org, the Muslim Community of Knoxville (USA) are a small but very well established & organised organisation, family friendly with much to offer their community, they are one of our American clients who were a pleasure to work with and an Inspiration to all communities. I think it’s fair to say anyone who was to browse through their work & photo Gallery is sure to find themselves wanting to be part of the fun & loving family.

Greengatesproperties.co.uk. Greengates Properties are another one of our local family run businesses here in Birmingham who pride themselves on their good customer service and expert knowledge in real estate, they offer great deals on properties to let, sell or buy. We wish them every success with their new CMS website that we were more than happy to provide them with IA.

Our team today celebrates the launch of another site, we designed, developed & currently also hosting the official site of Jamatia Islamic Centre, (JIC) which is situated here, in the heart of Birmingham.

JIC was first founded in the late 1970’s, it’s gone through several phases of development eventually progressing to one of many iconic buildings known to the local Muslim Community. Despite this remarkable progress Mashallah, the JIC is still striving to grow as a Centre of excellence & Islamic Studies, offering vital services & catering for the religious, social & spiritual needs of Muslims living in the west.

And what better way of doing this than with their first official website with built in CMS where they are able to regularly upload and announce latest news & events, upcoming courses & talks. We open our showcase with Style Islam’s blog biithnillah. They are a team of artists and designers implementing their work on clothing & various products. Their website/blog is a platform from where they display & sell their work. Styleislam create their own Islamic logos, icons and other design work. Their work is a fusion of eastern and western styles, which we assume is influenced by their background.

This is our team’s favourite, we love the simple user friendly  layout that works really well with their chosen colour scheme & islamified grungy background. Notice even their banners & cute twitter bird is ‘STYLE ISLAMIFIED’ and coordinating with their unique Muslim grunge theme. So as you can see, their work & creativity is definitely the highlight of it all, full of mind blowing, fresh & modern Islamic art… words cannot do justice to these guys, this site is a MUST see & speaks for itself.

Ummah Film’s Blog

I haven’t heard or met anybody who hasn’t heard of the very popular Ummah Films starring the hilarious & much loved Baba Ali, but for the exception of that one or two that haven’t, they are a Muslim film company that strive to provide Halaal (Islamically permissible) entertainment to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

The simple Jean textured logo together with the grungy torn paper effect revealing the coloured & more prominent Ummah Films text underneath, definitely adds the excitement to the simple clean cut background, not making it too busy or cluttered but instead very cleverly giving character to & enhancing the more important info.

Muslimmatters.org began in 2007 as a collaboration between various Bloggers and Shuyookh in order to bring attention to issues faced by Muslims, especially in the West. They have more of a co-operate theme going, simple, clean and classically stylish. The Young Muslims UK, a fantastic idea of a site, our daughters are part of this youth club and enjoy every week of packed entertainment & socialising with fellow Muslim young ladies like themselves. It’s fun, Islamic & educationalMashallah, and their site communicates just that. When aiming a site towards the youth it’s crucial to make it attractive to their eye, as well as ours and Alhamdulillah we can see that The Young Muslims UK have successfully achieved that with this young, grungy but smart theme. The great pictures of group outings implemented on the header & banners fused with the retro style circles & swirls make it so alive and full of energy, it leaves any Muslim teenager wanting to be part of it!

Muhabbat ul Deen Blog

Muhabbat ul Deen is a personal blog where Hamza Jennings (the author) expresses his opinions & thoughts about latest events etc. Not only does this blog have a great original appeal to it but it’s also jam packed with the most amazing collection of Islamic literature, books & audios you can read, listen, watch or download.

There’s  no confusion as to why this blog is so popular, the knowledge compiled in it is like a soft light shining through your window in the morning. Amazingly enough we see a reflection of this when turning our attention to the header to find the colour green subtly  emerging  from the ivy against the black & white background.

This must be the most talked about Muslim blog at the moment, its managed to attract so much attention from Muslims all over the world Mashallah, especially since our famous MR’s Blog recently announced the shocking news of his end! Alhamdulillah, by the Will & Grace of Allah the Almighty, and after a long break in between this project due to the client being busy with other development issues, we have now completed redesigning and revamping the official website of the Midlands Wing Chun School of the martial arts -  www.midlandswingchun.com.

Midlands Wing Chun is the 1st Professional Full Time Centre of the UK Wing Chun Association in the Midlands. They teach traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu in a modern, progressive way. This practical fighting art can help improve your health, weight management, reduce your stress levels & teach you practical skills of every day self defence. The School is suitable for both Men & Women & for all ages and abilities with children as young as 8 years attending their classes.

The design process saw many revisions and we presented to the client quite a few variations.   This was their original website:

We actually really liked the colour scheme they already had i.e. black and red. According to our little research we carried out before designing this website, the majority martial arts websites use dark colors and it suits them very well.

So we wanted to keep its color scheme and implemented it into our initial design:

However they preferred to change this and go with a fresher, lighter look. After a few revisions we ended up with the design you currently see below:
